Whatnot seller fees explained
Whatnot charges a commission on the item price only, plus a payment processing fee on the whole order including shipping and tax. Since 21 September 2026 the commission is tiered: every seller starts at 8% (4% for Coins & Money), and your total sales over each four-week period unlock lower rates for the next period, down to 4% in some categories.
Payment processing is a flat 2.9% + $0.30 per order in the US, Canada and Australia. There are no listing fees and no monthly cost. Because commission ignores shipping and tax, Whatnot's headline 8% often costs less than a 6% fee elsewhere that is charged on the full transaction.

Notice how the effective rate falls as the price rises on platforms with fixed fees, and stays flat on pure-percentage platforms. That is the whole story of which marketplace suits cheap versus expensive items.
What changed recently
- Tiered commission structure introduced. Rates now depend on your total sales in the previous four-week period and your category. Standard rate stays 8% (Coins 4%); the old flat 5% Electronics rate is gone.

How to pay less on Whatnot
- Tiers reset every 28 days and sales do not carry over, so bunching shows into one period can unlock a lower rate for the whole next period.
- Commission is on the item only. Charging realistic shipping costs you nothing in commission, only 2.9% in processing.
- The $0.30 per-order processing fee makes $1 giveaway-style sales expensive. Bundled shipping across a stream reduces how often it applies.
